GV Prakash Kumar’s upcoming horror thriller Immortal has officially postponed its theatrical release, making way for Vijay’s highly anticipated swansong, Jana Nayagan. The film, which was originally slated to hit theatres on July 23, will now release worldwide on September 4.
GV Prakash makes way for Vijay’s Jana Nayagan
The announcement came shortly after the makers of director H Vinoth’s Jana Nayagan confirmed that Vijay’s final film as a lead actor will arrive in cinemas on July 23. Soon after, GV Prakash took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the revised release date while extending his best wishes to the Vijay-starrer.
Sharing the update, the actor-composer wrote, “When Thalapathy arrives, we have to make way. That too, one last time. Best of luck team JN… Immortal will release in theatres on September 4th with your support and love.”

The gesture has struck a chord with Vijay fans, with many appreciating GV Prakash’s decision to avoid a box-office clash with the superstar’s farewell film. Immortal had earlier been considered for a May release before the makers locked July 23, only to revise the date once again.
Immortal promises romance and scares
Directed by Mariyappan Chinna, Immortal pairs GV Prakash with Dragon actress Kayadu Lohar in what promises to be a supernatural horror thriller with a romantic twist. The film has generated curiosity ever since its teaser dropped last year, offering a blend of humour, romance and chilling horror.
The teaser begins on a light-hearted note, introducing GV Prakash as a hopeless romantic imagining life with a beautiful woman under the same roof. His dream seemingly comes true when he strikes up a playful rapport with Kayadu Lohar’s character. However, the mood quickly shifts when he discovers a terrifying bat-faced creature lurking outside his room, setting the stage for a mystery-filled horror ride.
Apart from GV Prakash and Kayadu Lohar, the film also features TM Karthik, Kumar Natarajan, Lollu Sabha Maaran, Aaditya Kathir, Arshu Maharjan, Pema Tsamchoe and Sunita Shrestha in pivotal roles.
Produced by Arunkumar Dhanasekaran, Immortal features cinematography by Arun Radhakrishnan, music by Sam CS and editing by San Lokesh. The action sequences have been choreographed by R. Sakthi Saravanan, while Sabarish has handled the film’s dance choreography.
