Jailer 2 BO: Rajinikanth overtakes Coolie; earns over Rs 420 crore worldwide

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 hit theatres on October 15 amid high excitement and fanfare. The film completely lived up to expectations, given that the 2023 Jailer was a huge hit. The sequel, which also features an array of stars, has surpassed not just the first film but also Rajinikanth’s previous release, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie.
Jailer 2 worldwide box office collection report
The Nelson Dilpkumar-directed film grossed over Rs 424 crore worldwide in just four days of its release and its first weekend. In its first weekend, the film earned over Rs 119 crore net and Rs 234 crore gross at the Indian box office. It raked in another Rs 190 crore gross from overseas markets. With this, the film emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil release of 2026 in just three days, setting the record even before its opening weekend concluded.
Jailer 2 beats Rajinikanth’s Coolie
Jailer 2 has surpassed both the first film and Rajinikanth’s previous release Coolie. According to the trade website Sacnilk, Jailer grossed Rs 306.34 crore worldwide when it was released in 2023, and Coolie, in 2025, grossed Rs 382.50 crore in four days. Jailer 2 has outperformed this year’s other big Tamil grossers, including Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, which earned Rs 324.68 crore and Suriya’s Karuppu, which collected Rs 310.12 crore.
With lifetime collections of Rs 518 crore, Coolie was the highest-grossing Tamil film of last year. Jailer 2, however, has the festive advantage as it moves into the weekdays. However, it remains to be seen whether the film can maintain its impressive pace.
