Yash-starrer Toxic has received an 18 rating from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) ahead of its UK release. The film has been flagged for strong violence, sex and injury detail, along with threats, drugs and sexual violence. The rating comes shortly after Toxic received an A certificate from the CBFC.
Toxic UK rating
The BBFC mistakenly categorised Toxic as a Tamil film instead of Kannada, writing that in it, “the leader of a powerful drug cartel in Goa sows the seeds of his own destruction.” The film has been rated 5/5 for violence, sex and injury detail. It was further rated 4/5 for threat and horror, language, drugs, sexual violence and sexual threat, and suicide and self-harm. The film has a runtime of 191 minutes and 41 seconds in the country.
Nearly a week ago, the film received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), with a runtime of 3 hours and 14 minutes. The gangster drama was certified by the regional office of the board in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Details of any possible cuts or modifications have not been revealed.
The last gory Indian film to release in the UK was Dhurandhar: The Revenge. That film also received five out of five for violence, four out of five for threat, horror, language and injury detail. However, it was given three out of five for sex.
More about Toxic
The trailer of Yash’s Toxic was unveiled at a grand event in Bengaluru. The event was attended by Yash, along with female leads including Huma Qureshi, Kiara Advani, Rukmini Vasanth, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria and others. The film is all set to release on August 26.
It has been criticised for its intimate scene and alleged vulgarity. During his appearance on Aap Ki Adaalat, Yash reacted to the claims and said, “Vulgarity is wrong. I haven’t even kissed, as you may have noticed. There is a certain line, and we understand that. You have to shoot things aesthetically, and what may seem visually appealing later is the impact of cinema. Toxic is for Gen Zs. It’s for the conversations you guys are having, what problems you guys have with the seniors.”
