Kangana Ranaut slams Trisha's character assassination amid Vijay link-up row

Kangana Ranaut has voiced her support for Trisha Krishnan days after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thalapathy Vijay warned those making derogatory comments against women and said it would lead to legal consequences. While speaking to reporters after chairing a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Kullu, Kangana, who is also a BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, took a stand for Trisha.

Without directly mentioning Trisha’s name, Kangana said, “You have seen what happened in Tamil Nadu, where a very respected artist and actress was involved in a matter where the relationship was between both parties. However, when it comes to abuses and character assassination, it is always the woman who is targeted.”
The actor-turned-politician further added, “We all know that this is not restricted to India alone and is prevalent worldwide that character of working women, successful women, actors, politicians, women in positions of power and authority is targeted to bring her down.”
How did the controversy start?
Kangana’s remarks come weeks after Udhayanidhi Stalin landed himself in a controversy for his comments on Trisha. During a DMK protest in Thanjavur over the Cauvery water dispute and Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu project,  Udhayanidhi Stalin was addressing a gathering where he reportedly slammed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay. He made a remark in Tamil that roughly translates to: “Wherever water comes, whether it comes or not, water should come there.” However, he immediately clarified that his reference was to the Cauvery water.
The remark quickly became a political debate, with the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) raising accusations against Udhayanidhi for publicly making an objectifying and derogatory comment about a woman. As the matter escalated, Udhayanidhi was arrested from his Chennai home on August 4 after a case was registered over his speech. He was later released.
