Following multiple delays and massive buzz among fans, Yash has finally returned to the big screen after four years with Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-ups. The gangster drama, helmed by Geetu Mohandas, was released in theatres worldwide on August 26 amid much fanfare. Fans were seen celebrating the release with fervour outside cinema halls. Likewise, early moviegoers have started sharing their reviews of the film on social media.

A user shared an honest review, writing, “Yash Sir’s performance and the cinematography are the only major positives. The fight scenes are also massive But the story & screenplay are a complete disaster. Character introductions are poorly handled, emotional scenes have zero impact, and the narrative constantly feels lost. Too many unnecessary and adult scenes feel completely forced. Heroines’ acting is CRINGE PRO MAX Songs & BGM are another huge headache. At times, it feels like 4–5 different movies were mashed together without knowing how to connect them.”
Another reviewer shared, “A technically sound film buried under chaotic writing and exhausting execution. There are barely any proper character introductions, the narrative has no clear flow, and the screenplay gets confusing enough that you’re often left wondering what’s even happening. Dialogue writing is bad, the editing is even worse, and Ravi Basrur’s BGM only makes the experience that much more painful. Yash’s screen presence and a few scenes along with a better-executed climax are the very few positives. This one is hard to sit through. Not even a bad watch, this is a straight up disaster! Rating: 1.5/5”
One user posted a detailed Toxic review and wrote, “The first half of Toxic starts with a solid Yash entry that delivers the expected mass elevation, followed by a few impressive fight episodes. The cinematography, production design and overall setup look good, while #KiaraAdvani and #Nayanthara put in decent performances. However, the major issue is the excessive lag. The first half feels repetitive, with an adult scene followed by a fight and similar sequences continuing throughout. More importantly, the film fails to establish a strong emotional connection with the audience. The second half unfortunately continues the same slow pace, with only a few action sequences providing some relief. The core emotion never really works, and the last 40 minutes feel unintentionally comical because of the way the situations are written and presented.”

The user added, “Despite some good performances, very little works in the film’s favour. Kiara Advani stands out as one of the best aspects of the movie, delivering a fantastic performance, while Yash also does a good job in his role. However, the climax is one of the weakest and most unconvincing parts of the film. By then, the excessive runtime becomes extremely noticeable, making the overall experience feel unnecessarily stretched. Overall, Toxic has good action, performances and technical quality, but the weak emotional core, slow narration, lengthy runtime and disappointing climax severely affect the film,” before calling it a ‘very disappointing outing.”

The film has been passed by the CBFC with an ‘A’ rating. The Hindi version of the film received significant cuts, including muting abusive dialogues, reducing a drug abuse scene and replacing an obscene dialogue.
