When your father is one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars and now the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu it would be easy to use his name to promote your first film. But Jason Sanjay appears to be taking a different route. As his directorial debut Sigma prepares for release, Vijay’s son has made it clear that he wants the film to stand on its own rather than depend on his father’s star power. Jason recently spoke about Vijay’s reaction to the film and explained why the actor-turned-politician will not be part of its promotional campaign.
‘He is waiting for the release’
During a press interaction for Sigma, Jason was asked what role his father would play in the film’s promotion. His answer was simple: Vijay is waiting to watch the finished film.
“He is waiting for the release,” Jason said, adding that his father was also excited to see what he had created. However, when asked whether Vijay would promote the movie, Jason ruled it out. According to Free Press Journal, Jason said he wanted the publicity to remain focused on Sigma and did not want it to overlap with his father’s public role as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister.
Jason said Vijay now has “so much responsibility”, explaining why involving him in the promotions was not something he wanted.

The young filmmaker also spoke about the moment Vijay became Chief Minister. Recalling his reaction, Jason said he felt extremely happy and described it as a special moment for both him and those around his father.
This is not the first time Jason has spoken about Vijay’s political journey. In an earlier interview with India Today, he described seeing his father become Chief Minister as a “historic” moment and spoke about the added responsibility that comes with being part of such a well-known family. At the same time, Jason has indicated that he wants to build his own identity. India Today reported that Vijay had advised his son to create his own name rather than simply rely on the family’s legacy.
