Jana Nayagan: Despite Rs 190 cap, tickets of CM Vijay's film sold at hiked price

Jana Nayagan, touted to be Vijay’s final film before his political journey as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, is finally hitting screens on July 23 following a months-long delay. While the ticket prices for the film have been capped at Rs 190 in the state of Tamil Nadu, now chaos has ensued after some tickets were illegally sold at a hiked price at a few theatres. A video shows fans and theatre management arguing about the same issue.

Fans are seen arguing, “Who has allowed you to sell tickets at Rs 300?” They can also be heard saying, “Call up the CM’s office and ask if you can sell it for Rs 300.” The management informs them that the price was set by the distributors before they left. Later, another fan says that he has gone to numerous theatres to purchase a ticket for the opening day of Jana Nayagan. He claimed that some theatres are selling tickets priced at Rs 500 and more.
Fans urge CM Vijay to take strict action
One user shared the video on Twitter and wrote, “CM Sir, the 150-rupee ticket is being sold for 500 rupees. If this is the situation even for your movie… Please look into this matter. Take strict action.”
Another user wrote, “Let us report this corruption to our CMO’s whatsapp number. Imagine if they can do this for his own movies, what all they will do for things where he isn’t a part of.”
One fan went on to claim, “Bro, tickets for the FDFS were sold at the counter at Thanjavur Vetri E-Square Cinemas at Rs 700,” while another pointed out, “Bro, in Anna’s rule, they’ve wiped out bribes in all government offices. But for the movie Jana Nayagan that Anna acted in, we can’t even buy tickets without paying a bribe.’
Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, features Vijay, Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol in the lead roles.
