Amala Paul has been a renowned name in the South Industry, the actress recently got candid about whether she would make the same choice with films today the way she used to in her initial days despite being grateful for the opportunities and experience. At the India Today South Conclave 2026 she recalled how she was skeptical about taking up the 2019 Tamil thriller Aadai which required her to experiment with nudity for multiple scenes in the film.

Amala shared how her biggest concern for the film was how the subject of nudity would be approached in the film and would it be treated as a part of the story, “I needed to trust the director and the cinematographer. My whole thinking was, are these people up for making an aesthetic film where it is emotionally driven or is it about nudity?”
The actress shared how it wasn’t an immediate decision to sign the project for her, she spent around 2 months to understand how the team was planning to navigate the film, she also travelled with the team before saying yes to Adai, “Once I had the trust and was convinced that this was going to be creatively shot, it was a very beautiful creative process for all of us. They made me feel comfortable with minimal people on set.”
Despite being convinced, Amala’s major concern was about her image and being stereotyped in the industry after picking such a role, “I had all these thoughts and I was scared about my image. I did not want to be stereotyped and do more such films.”
Would Amala do a film like Aadai again?
Talking about whether she would pick a film like Aadai if offered now, Amala shared, “If you ask me to do an Aadai right now, I don’t think I would do it.”
On the work front, Amala Paul was last seen in the 2024 Malayalam films The Goat Life and Level Cross. In Blessy’s The Goat Life, she shared the screen with Prithviraj Sukumaran in the survival drama. She also starred in Level Cross, directed by Arfaz Ayub, alongside Asif Ali and Sharaf U Dheen. Both films marked notable additions to her Malayalam filmography, with the actor taking on distinct roles in the two projects. She often likes to keep her professional and personal life separate.
