Watch: Dhanush urges students to take pride in Tamil; inaugurates school block

Actor Dhanush returned to his alma mater, Thai Sathya Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai, for an emotional visit where he inaugurated a new academic block funded entirely by him. The event turned into a nostalgic reunion as he met his former teachers, interacted with students and shared a heartfelt message on the importance of education and preserving one’s mother tongue.
Dhanush emphasises on preserving mother tongue
Addressing the students, Dhanush emphasised that while learning multiple languages is important, one should never forget their native language. “Knowing many languages is a good thing. But not knowing your mother tongue is shameful,” he said, urging students to value Tamil and remain connected to their cultural roots.
The actor further encouraged students to develop the ability to read and write in Tamil, saying, “At the very least, every one of you should know how to read and write Tamil.” He explained that language is closely tied to identity and heritage, adding that education should strengthen one’s connection to culture rather than weaken it.

Revisiting the classrooms where he once studied, he thanked his teachers for their guidance and support. The actor said returning to the school brought back countless memories and made him realise how much the institution had contributed to his personal and professional journey.
The highlight of the event was the inauguration of a new academic block, which was built with Dhanush’s financial support.
