Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna tied the knot in February this year, but their relationship blossomed on the sets of Dear Comrade. As the couple gears up for Ranabaali, their third film together, they opened up about keeping their relationship private for years. Vijay also revealed what made him realise he wanted Rashmika as his wife.
Vijay, Rashmika on keeping relationship a secret
On Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, Vijay and Rashmika spoke about keeping their relationship under wraps for around eight years. He said, “Rashmika and I met as colleagues eight years ago. We became friends and then fell in love. We were in a relationship and eventually she became my wife. There was no hide-and-seek game. I did not find it necessary to talk about it. This is my life, and why should I discuss it with others?”
Rashmika added, “Humara relationship entertainment ke liye nahi hai. Humara relationship humare liye hai. Joh cheezon ko hume protect karna chahiye, hume bahar nahi baat karna hai. (Our relationship is not for entertainment. It is for us. Whatever we want to protect, we don’t want to talk about).”
Vijay on his wedding caption
Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna got married in an intimate destination ceremony at ITC Mementos, Udaipur, on February 26, 2026. Sharing first glimpses of their big day, a part of Vijay’s caption read, “One day, I missed her. Missed her in a way that made me feel like my day would’ve been better if she were around. I made my best friend… my wife.”
Explaining the meaning behind it, he expressed, “When our friendship turned into a relationship, approximately a year ago, I felt a kind of dependency. When I shoot with her, I enjoy it more and feel more relaxed. We have the same trainer. When we work out together, it doesn’t feel like a struggle. We eat together too. When I’m eating alone, I feel that it would be nice if Rashmika were there to share the meal with me. Over the last one year, I realised I was missing her in bits of life, and everything feels better when you have this special person with you. Everything feels nicer. Then I thought, let’s get married.”
They will now be seen together in Ranabaali, playing husband and wife on screen as well. This marks their third on-screen collaboration after Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade.
