Jana Nayagan has emerged as a major box office success, registering a strong four-day extended opening weekend. The Vijay-starrer recovered well after a slight Friday slowdown and has now crossed Rs 100 crore net in India. The film has also posted impressive overseas numbers, taking its worldwide total past Rs 200 crore.
Jana Nayagan opening weekend collection
Jana Nayagan opened to houseful shows in Tamil Nadu, with its collection summing up to Rs 78 crore gross worldwide. The film faced a drop on Friday but recovered well on Saturday and Sunday, netting Rs 28.90 crore and Rs 32 crore, respectively, in India. This takes the film’s domestic haul to an impressive Rs 124 crore net (Rs 146 crore gross) over its four-day extended weekend.
With this, Jana Nayagan has become only the second Tamil film of 2026 to cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the domestic box office. Karuppu, starring Suriya, continues to lead the list with a lifetime India net collection of Rs 198 crore.
Overseas, the film earned over USD 2 million on its opening day. In other territories, it brought in over USD 1 million. By the end of Sunday, the film had taken its overseas earnings to an impressive USD 7.5 million. Its worldwide gross now stands at Rs 217 crore.

Meanwhile, fans across Tamil Nadu turned the film’s release into a grand celebration as they gathered outside cinema halls to catch the early shows of Jana Nayagan on Thursday.
Visuals from Rohini Theatre in Koyambedu showed an enthusiastic crowd lined up outside the cinema, with many eagerly waiting to watch the first-day-first show. Supporters were also seen dancing, cheering, and celebrating the release, creating a festive atmosphere. Posters of Jana Nayagan and the actor-politician’s large cut-outs were also put up by fans at various locations.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay alongside Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain. Interestingly, Vijay has become only the second sitting Chief Minister after MGR to have a film released during his tenure.
Amid the success, Tamil television actor Anandhi Ajay broke down in an emotional video after revealing that her scenes had been removed from Jana Nayagan, Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited final film. The clip has since gone viral on social media, with fans rallying behind the actor.
