Actor Bobby Deol’s successful run as a villain in South Indian cinema has given him several larger-than-life antagonists, but it has also left him with an amusing observation. The actor recently joked that many of the stars he has worked with have eventually taken on prominent political roles.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter while promoting Jana Nayagan, Bobby reflected on collaborating with Thalapathy Vijay, Nandamuri Balakrishna and Pawan Kalyan. Looking back at the coincidence, he quipped, “Every time I’ve worked with these actors, they’ve all become ministers. It’s just something very funny… I’m just joking.”
His latest release, Jana Nayagan, sees him playing Phoenix, the primary antagonist opposite Vijay in what is being promoted as the Tamil superstar’s final film before fully focusing on politics.
Explaining the coincidence, Bobby pointed out that Balakrishna, with whom he shared screen space in Daaku Maharaaj, has been an elected MLA from Hindupur since 2014. He also mentioned working with Pawan Kalyan in Hari Hara Veera Mallu. Kalyan currently serves as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, while Vijay recently launched his political party and is preparing for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Although Bobby laughed off the pattern as nothing more than a coincidence, the remark quickly caught fans’ attention online given the political journeys of his co-stars.

Bobby also opened up about working with Vijay, revealing that he did not remain in touch with the actor during the six-month delay before Jana Nayagan reached theatres.
According to Bobby, Vijay prefers to stay away from extensive promotional campaigns and instead lets his work speak for itself.
“He doesn’t like to do too much promotion. He doesn’t do anything. He just believes, and so I was like, fine, that’s how he likes it,” Bobby said.
The actor also compared the experience to working with Suriya in Kanguva. Bobby described Suriya as warm and approachable, adding that conversations came naturally because the actor is familiar with Mumbai through his wife, Jyotika.
Since the success of Animal, Bobby has become one of the most sought-after antagonists in big-budget South films. With Jana Nayagan, he continues that streak, while his light-hearted political joke has added another memorable moment to the film’s promotional campaign.
