Cine body seeks FIR and judicial inquiry in Rahul Arunoday Banerjee death

The sudden demise of Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee has sparked outrage within the film and television industry, with the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) demanding strict legal action and accountability. The actor died after drowning while shooting for the TV show Bhole Baba Paar Karega near Talsari beach, an incident that has raised serious concerns about on-set safety practices.

In a strongly worded statement, AICWA alleged that the tragedy was not merely accidental but the result of “gross negligence” on the part of the producers, production house, and the broadcasting channel. The association stressed that essential safety protocols were either ignored or inadequately implemented during the shoot. “The absence or failure of such critical safety measures points toward severe lapses,” the statement noted, highlighting the lack of trained divers, rescue teams, and emergency preparedness required for shoots involving water bodies.
Calling for immediate legal action, AICWA has urged authorities to register an FIR under charges of murder against those responsible for the project. The body has also demanded a high-level, time-bound judicial inquiry into the incident to determine accountability. “AICWA will not remain silent,” the statement asserted, adding that the organisation is committed to ensuring justice for the late actor and his family.
Apart from legal proceedings, the association has sought financial compensation of Rs 1 crore for Banerjee’s family, to be recovered from the production entities involved. It has further called for the blacklisting of the producers, production house, and the channel linked to the show, demanding a complete ban on their operations until strict safety compliance measures are enforced.
