Ranabaali: BookMyShow ratings, reviews disabled for Vijay, Rashmika's film

On Friday, just before Ranabaali released, a Bengaluru court granted an ex parte interim relief against false and defamatory content about Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer. The film, directed by Rahul Sankrityan, has since had its BookMyShow reviews and ratings disabled. A disclaimer on the ticketing portal states that the action was performed in accordance with a court ruling.
Ranabaali ratings, reviews disabled on BookMyShow after court order
LiveLaw reported that the order prohibited social media platforms including X Corp, YouTube, Google India, BookMyShow, IMDb, Facebook India, Meta platforms and unidentified John Doe defendants from hosting or circulating defamatory and false content about Ranabaali.
According to reports, the makers and production house also petitioned the court on specific links and remarks they deemed defamatory. The complaint alleged that following the release of Ranabaali teaser, negative remarks, including reaction videos and claims that the movie would be a flop before release, started surfacing online. The production house stated that anonymous identities and bot networks were being utilised to call for a boycott.
Meanwhile, a Madras court granted the makers a John Doe anti-piracy injunction before the film’s release, but the content action against Ranabaali will resume in court on November 6.
What appears on BookMyShow then?
Public reviews and ratings for the film have been disabled, according to the Ranabaali page on BookMyShow. The note reads, “Ratings & Reviews disabled as per court order.” The only buttons that are still operational are the “I am interested button” and “Book Tickets.”
The film’s synopsis reads: “Set against the devastating backdrop of the Great Madras Famine of 1876, Ranabaali is a massive historical action spectacle that tracks the explosive rise of an indigenous rebel against the global might of the British Empire.”
Interestingly, Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, released a day before Ranabaali, also has its reviews and ratings disabled on the ticketing platform. Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, Nani’s The Paradise, Chiranjeevi’s Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh, and Shahid Kapoor’s O’Romeo are also big-ticket releases that had their reviews disabled on the platform following court orders.
