Kichcha Sudeep has come out in support of Yash and his latest film, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, amid the largely negative response the film has received from sections of the audience. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the Kannada-English gangster drama hit theatres on August 26 and has sparked considerable discussion over its unconventional storytelling and visual style.
While several viewers have criticised the film’s screenplay and narrative, Sudeep praised Yash for choosing to experiment instead of taking the conventional route expected from a star of his stature. He highlighted the courage it takes for an actor to move away from a familiar formula and attempt something different.

Kichcha Sudeep took to his X handle to share his thoughts on Toxic, he wrote, “Just want to say this, TheNameIsYash— you’ve genuinely tried something out of the box rather than taking the predictable route of making another regular, expected, formulaic follow-up to your previous commercial blockbuster. It takes a different mindset, conviction, and most importantly, the guts to attempt something like this.”
“#Toxic is an unusual and commendable attempt. There are several portions that are genuinely intriguing and open to great debate, discussion, and learning. Kudos to you for daring to experiment and step away from the conventional. Bestest wishes, my friend,” he further penned.
Sudeep’s comments come at a time when Toxic has been receiving divided reactions. While Yash’s performance, screen presence, action sequences and the film’s visual treatment have found appreciation, sections of the audience have raised concerns about the screenplay, pacing and storytelling.
All about Toxic
The film marks a significant departure for Yash following the success of the KGF franchise. Rather than returning to a straightforward mass-action template, Toxic explores a darker and more stylised world under Mohandas’ direction. The film features an ensemble cast including Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth.
Nayanthara plays Ganga, Yash’s character’s sister, and has previously spoken about choosing the role because it offered her a strong character with an independent narrative arc. She said she did not want to be part of a film merely to “look good” and appreciated the depth of her character.
Despite the criticism, Toxic has opened strongly at the box office. The film crossed the Rs 200-crore mark worldwide within three days, demonstrating that the negative reactions have not completely dampened audience interest. Toxic makers have been sending legal notices to negative reviews by YouTubers.
