Netizens irked by THIS common thing in Jailer 2, Ranabaali, and The Paradise

The recent rise of violent films has started a new wave in Indian cinema. While many are liking the blood, gore and guns that celebrate the larger-than-life hero, many have found it unnecessary. At times, the boundaries of comfort of watching these scens on the screens are often compromised, leaving the viewers irked. Following the release of Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 and now Rashmika Mandanna-Vijay Deverakonda’s Ranabaali, the internet has called out the depiction of pregnant women in these films and the visual violence against them.
Portrayal of pregnant women in Jailer 2, Ranabaali and The Paradise
Notably, Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has a scene where one character is brutally beaten by the antagonist, only to be heroically saved by the antagonist Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, played by Rajinikanth. The internet is of the opinion that this scene could have been avoided in the Tamil film.
Meanwhile, Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda’s much-anticipated Ranabaali, which released today, is based on famine in Rayalaseema. The film has come under fire for the depiction of violence wherein Rashmika’s Jayamma is pregnant, and her stomach is cut open to save a baby.
Similarly, Nani’s The Paradise had its core against the backdrop of the electrocution of pregnant women itself. The film faced criticism for a scene showing a heavily pregnant woman from the marginalised Savaari tribe facing forced electrocution and extreme violence.
Netizens react
The internet has taken note of the recurring pattern in recent films, where pregnant women are being tortured by the antagonists. Netizens used social media to urge Telugu and Tamil filmmakers to refrain from showing such kind of brutality.
A user on X wrote, “Paradise jailer ranabali stop using this pregnancy related and new born child violence in movies most disturbing and unfortunate to watch and for money you people are using everyone including god pregnant woman kids rape scene.”

Another user commented, “PREGNANT WOMAN IS GETTING BEATEN UP AND THIS MF IS WALKING IN SLOW MOTION. He could’ve stopped it from happening in the first place, but nooope. let her cry get tied up and beaten with stick, then slow mo from taking the gun and walking inside, blood spilling on pregnant women face (sic).”

This year, we had several films where the abuse of women serves as a prop for the protagonist’s mass sequences. Films like “Jana Nayagan,” “Paradise,” and now “Jailer 2” continue this pattern. Pregnant women and rape victims are treated merely as props in these narratives.
