Actors are constantly subjected to trolling and scrutiny online, with Salman Khan recently taking a strong stand against the culture. The actor questioned the need to target celebrities over their looks, age and personal lives. Echoing similar sentiments, Suriya has now urged his fans not to engage with trolls. Instead, he asked them to spread love and focus their energy on what they love.
Suriya urges fans to stop trolling
At a meet-and-greet event organised by the All India Suriya Fans Club in Chennai, Suriya urged his fans to “spread love” and not give trolls attention by acknowledging or responding to them.
The actor said, “Let’s spread only love. Just because some fool puts up a post on social media, the moment we start responding to it, we are the ones who end up getting hurt. Let’s just be ourselves and let them be who they are. We don’t need to say anything. Trying to make them understand or change their minds can be difficult. Some people will understand, but most won’t. So, don’t waste your energy on them. Just sincerely keep doing what you love every single day. Success will definitely come.”

Suriya is currently basking in the success of Vishwanath and Sons. Reflecting on the film’s box-office performance, he gushed, “Success can’t be measured by the number of tickets sold. What happens to the conversations after the film? What happens to the emotions people carry after the film? What happens to the tears, the smiles? All these emotions can’t be put in a balance sheet. Money is very, very important. But this kind of emotion, which you might talk about after two years, is very, very important.”
What Salman Khan said about trolls
A few days back, during Bigg Boss 20 Weekend Ka Vaar, Salman Khan also opened up about the unnecessary trolling actors go through, including nasty comments about their looks. Salman questioned the mentality behind trolling and said that people should look after their own lives and families instead of constantly targeting others. He removed his jacket and hat in anger to confirm that he is fine and that his current look is for a project.
He had also come out in defence of women being body-shamed after pregnancy, in an apparent reference to the trolling faced by his close friend and former co-star Katrina Kaif over her post-pregnancy weight gain. Without naming Katrina, Salman had questioned why anyone should troll a woman simply for gaining weight after giving birth.
He said that gaining weight during and after pregnancy is normal and that when she returns to films, she will get fit again, adding that she may simply want to spend time with her family at present. He also criticised the culture of body- and age-shaming celebrities online, calling such trolling unnecessary and “dirty”.
