Rukmini Vasanth's fans slam popular X user over Toxic intimate scenes row

Rukmini Vasanth has found support from fans after facing online trolling and moral policing over her role in Yash and Geetu Mohandas’ Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. The film, which released in theatres on Wednesday, has received a mixed response, but a section of social media users specifically targeted Rukmini over an intimate sequence involving her character.
Rukmini plays Mellisa in the gangster drama and enters the story later than the other female characters. Her character initially approaches Yash’s Raya with an intention to harm him, but their equation eventually develops into a romantic relationship. The intimacy between the two characters is largely implied rather than explicitly shown, and the story later establishes that they have a child together.
Popular X handle trolls Rukmini Vasanth
Despite the nature of the scene, some viewers took to social media to question Rukmini’s decision to be part of the sequence. Several comments appeared to project a certain image of the actor onto her, with some users describing her as “wife material” and expressing disappointment that she had taken on a role involving intimacy. A popular X page Kolly Censor made the ‘wife material’ remark on Rukmini, which read as, “Rukmini Vasanth is a kind of girl, who gives the vibe of “Wife Material” attire for many boys, most of men wouldn’t have seen or thought about her in sexual or physical way of mindset. She’s the one, who makes us feel so comfortable with her presence and purity, couldn’t able to digest for the role she has accepted in Toxic, she has not done that glamorous in the movie like Kiara, but still this impact is not accepted or crossed easily.”

Fans call out the user and support Rukmini
Rukmini’s fans, however, pushed back against the trolling and defended the actor’s right to choose varied roles. One supporter pointed out that there is no explicit kissing or love-making scene involving her in the film and accused critics of making unnecessary comments about her character. A user wrote, “I don’t want to attack your mum but how do i say ‘you do realise your mother was a ‘wife’ and had ‘s*x’ to have you right?’ very softly so that it cuts through your side?”

While one of them wrote, “Wow.. Such an insane toxicity from this tweet. You want a wife with “purity” and not “sexual”. And then what? She has to be cute, obedient, and walk on tiptoes? Is wife an object for you? Do whatever s you want with it? Flaunting your disgusting mentality like it’s a good thing is more yuck.”  A user also added, “Why the hell you guys are expecting an actress to be your wife material ra. At end the she’s an actress she would do anything to sustain and get the career peak as well.”

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features Yash in the lead role, with Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth in key roles. The film explores themes of power, love, betrayal and redemption through its gangster narrative.
While Toxic has received a lukewarm critical response, the film has reportedly crossed the Rs 100 crore mark domestically and earned around Rs 140 crore worldwide. The debate around Rukmini’s role has meanwhile sparked a larger conversation online about celebrity expectations, female actors and moral policing.
