Toxic box office: Yash fails to break his own KGF 2 record on day 1

Yash’s Toxic finally hit the screens on August 26, and it has defied all expectations at the box office. The A-rated film, which many trade experts forecasted would earn around Rs 80-85 crore net in India and Rs 110 crore gross worldwide, has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark domestically. Additionally, it has also sailed past the Rs 140-crore mark worldwide.

According to Sacnilk, Yash’s Toxic earned Rs 101 crore net and Rs 120 crore gross across India on its opening day. The collection was led by the Hindi version of the film, which contributed Rs 55 crore, followed by the Kannada version, which was unable to cross Rs 25 crore despite a high occupancy. Meanwhile, the Telugu version earned Rs 11 crore on the day.
Despite Toxic reviews largely being unfavourable, the gangster drama recorded the second-best opening for an Indian film in the domestic market in 2026, behind Dhurandhar 2’s historic Rs 103 crore start.
Talking of the overseas market, Toxic did not enjoy a penetration like Dhurandhar 2, and Pathaan did. As a result, the film earned just over USD 2 million overseas on its first day. However, it significantly contributed to the film registering an opening day worldwide gross of Rs 140 crore, making it the second-highest in Kannada cinema history.
Toxic’s day 1 collection was enough to secure it a spot among the top-15 openings by Indian films all-time. It was able to exceed the global opening hauls of films such as Pathaan (Rs 104 crore), Animal (Rs 116 crore), Adipurush (Rs 127 crore), and Jawan (Rs 129 crore).
However, the film fell short of breaking Yash’s own record of Rs 164 crore, set by KGF Chapter 2 four years ago. Similarly, it also missed the biggest opening of the year record set by Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2’s with Rs 205 crore.

Toxic is directed by Geetu Mohandas and stars Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth, and Tara Sutaria in the lead roles. The film was cleared by the CBFC with an A-rating. The makers had earlier issued a strong warning against piracy of the film and its scenes; nevertheless, a scene featuring Yash and Kiara was leaked online hours after release.
